Kortan Frank
(1964)

Frank Kortan was born in 1964 and grew up in Prague. In 1984, he emigrated from former Czechoslovakia to Switzerland. Later on he moved to Germany, where he settled permanently and has lived and worked for more than 40 years. His work has earned him the Salvador Dalí World Prize for Fine Arts.

Painting has been the artist’s passion since childhood and continues to be at the heart of his creative practice. His work lies at the intersection of Surrealism and fantastic realism, while he also enjoys incorporating the principles of trompe-l’œil and combining them with surrealist motifs. His distinctive use of wood allows him to achieve an exceptional level of detail. By gradually layering these details, he creates a striking three-dimensional illusion.
